We are very proud of our fantastic catering team, Nourish Contract Catering (formerly known as CDC), who provide nutritious food for the children here at Green Street Green Primary School.
Nourish is a small local company and provides a “hand on approach” they are always available to provide information and support to both the parents and the school. They really will go that “extra mile” to ensure that an excellent service is provided.
All of the menus are based on fresh food that use less fat, less salt and less sugar. Each day there is a choice of two hot homemade dishes, of which one is vegetarian. All menus are well balanced with protein, carbohydrate, vegetables and salad followed by a choice of homemade desserts. The menus are prepared in compliance with School Food Trust Nutrient Standards.
Nourish aim to make the most of local, seasonal produce. The meat and seasonal fruit are sourced from Kent. The menus change according to the seasons, offering Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer.
Recent research has shown that a good healthy meal at lunchtime can help improve children’s attention and responses during afternoon lessons.
What our children have to say about the School Dinners………
“It is like eating at the Harvester”
“They are tastier now, it is real food!”
“The choice is better and the portions are bigger”
“I love the fish and the roast chicken. It really is chicken!”
“I love the salad selection and the puddings!”
“Even the vegetables are good”
From 1st September 2019, we will be offering the children the choice of packed lunch or school meal on a daily basis.
The children will be asked which meal choice they would like at morning registration (meat, vegetarian or jacked potato option) , this will be noted on a dinner register. At lunchtime, the children will be given a coloured wristband relevant to their food choice to indicate to the kitchen staff what they have ordered. It would greatly assist us, especially for the KS1 children, if you are able to discuss the options each day from the menu above, so that the children have an idea of what they might like when the teacher takes the register.
The price for a child’s meal will be £2.25 per day.
Dinner money payments should be made in advance online using the following link:
